Geoffrey Beene Dress
cheerful this bright red/orange dress from Mr. Beene is
cotton pique dressed up with black cord trim.
neckline and modern square armholes are outlined with black
cord, which makes a turn at the bustline. With the addition
of black buttons this creates the appearance of a bib or
tuxedo front for the dress. The simple A line shape of the
dress continues to widen as it approaches the hemline. Two
horizontal bands of black cord encircle the bottom, adding
balance to the design of this colorful vintage dress.
interior bodice of the dress is faced in matching pique, the
rest of the dress is lined in cream colored organdy. There
is an invisible zipper at the center back.
summer dress is in excellent, wearable condition. Both the
label and the style of this dress indicate that it is from
the early part of Geoffrey Beene's career, the late 1960's
or early 1970's.
