James Galanos Dress from Mrs. Nat King Cole

A whimsical butterfly pattern is set against pink and white stripes in this charming hostess dress designed by James Galanos in the 1950's. It was worn by Mrs. Nat King Cole when she and her husband were interviewed by Edward R. Murrow. The dress has a scoop neckline, low back, two breast pockets, a button front and unusual button shoulders as well. The skirt is quite full and two more pockets are concealed in the seams. It is shown here with a ribbon at the waist. The original belt remains with the dress but the fabric covered buckle has darkened and the leather backing is cracked. The dress is in excellent condition.
