H. Creed & Co. Paris, circa 1940

An unusual suit from the Haute Couture house of H. Creed & Co. is created from two slightly different shades of wool. The lapels, collar linings and the skirt are a slightly darker shade than the body of the jacket. The collar and cuffs are deep brown velvet. The jacket is fully lined and hand finished in the couture manner. It bears the Creed label and the couture label is underneath. This suit was made for Mrs. Robert Burdick in the late 1930's or very early 1940's. I have included a photo of a very similar suit in the collection of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. They date the suit to the mid 1930's.
