James Galanos Evening Dress

James Galanos designed this elegant two piece evening dress in the 1970's. Lightweight black silk crepe is used for both pieces. The fabric is gathered into a basket weave pattern at the yoke and over the hips.

The intricacy of this hand work is just amazing. The top of the dress has a round neckline, cut in arm holes typical of this period, a gently flowing bodice and a center back zipper. The skirt is long and narrow with a fitted waistband. The basket weave pattern is repeated at the hip line, and a gathered overskirt falls gently below. This overskirt tapers to a longer length at the back. The skirt is fully lined and there is a center back zipper. Both pieces are in excellent condition. These pieces work beautifully together but they can also be worn separately with items in your wardrobe.
